The Academic Commons brings together offices with a diverse set of missions, each providing assistance to students as they seek to fulfill their academic potential and graduate in the timeliest manner.
The Academic Commons started in 2016 with the Oishei Drop-in Advising Center, funded by a $75,000 grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation.
The centerpiece of the library renovation project is the new Academic Commons, which is billed as a “one-stop shop” to meet students’ academic needs.
The Academic Commons will serve as the new front door to student success at Buffalo State by providing welcoming academic support services that strengthen the relationship between students and the advisers, tutors, librarians, and other support staff who are dedicated to helping them succeed.
It will house the Writing Center, the Math Center, the Educational Opportunity Program's Academic Center for Excellence (EOP-ACE), the Advising Center, and Student Accessibility Services, as well as the IT Help Desk and Reference desk.
Additionally, the Academic Commons will include a variety of private and semi-private group and individual study spaces, asd well as spaces for one-on-one and group tutoring.
